(Written by: Joel)Our temporary driver Alain noticed that our radiator was leaking on Sunday before we left. Instead of getting it repaired, we filled it with water and started driving home. After about an hour or so, Vijay noticed the temperature gauge was in the red, and we hadn’t been watching it closely enough. Luckily, we pulled over where there were some locals who were happy to help. After about a half an hour to let the car cool down, we added a bunch of water, bought a jug of water from them for $1.25 plus a 1.5L bottle of Coke-a-Cola.
After about another half an hour on the road, we were pulled over by a soldier who was upset that our registration and insurance stickers were out of date. He spent a lot of time looking into the car, and speaking in very rapid French to the driver. We were able to reach Andre, who is either a colonel or general in the military, and we handed the phone to the guard. I think it is safe to say his demeanor changed dramatically. Mike and Vijay convinced me it was a bad idea to take his picture, but it was pretty funny to see his expressions. So again we were on the road to Douala, this time with only 30 km away.
